Linen Calendar Towels 2012

Calendar towels are wonderful, and they can add a decorative touch to just about any room in your home. When one thinks of these towels, the first room that comes to mind is the kitchen, as many of them have kitchen-ish designs, such as flowers, recipes, etc. These are fun to have around, and they make awesome mementos to collect over the years.

You can easily create your own calendar towels, and it will not cost you much money to do so. There are a few different ways that you can accomplish this. One way is to use a favorite photo, and get one of the many photo processing companies to create a towel for you. Your photo will be on the towel, as well as the calendar for the year you choose.

A fun gift idea is to have one of these towels made for a person’s birthday, and make the calendar from the year they were born. You can download calendars going back many years from a number of different websites. If you want to do everything yourself from start to finish, try doing the following:

• Choose a towel that is light in color, so the images you use will show up well. A tea towel or hand towel is the ideal size for this type of project.
• Make sure that you use images that are bright and have plenty of contrast with the towel fabric.
• If you are using a photo, scan it into your computer. You can also use your own artwork, or any other image you like.
• Create a page that looks like a calendar, in dimensions large enough to fit a good portion of the towel.
• Position the calendar and artwork or photo(s) where you want everything to go on the screen, making sure that the final dimensions fit within the dimensions of the towel. • Complete the design with a decorative border if you like.
• Print the design out onto vinyl transfer paper. Make sure the paper is positioned rough side down in the printer.
•Place the image printed side up on the fabric. Cover with silicon paper, and a few sheets of regular computer paper.
•Iron the surface, applying pressure for about 50 seconds for a cotton towel, and about 25 seconds for synthetic materials.
•Allow fabric to cool, then peel off the outer layer of paper.

There you have it. It is that easy to make your own calendars on towels, or any other type of fabric you choose. You can have fun experimenting with artwork, photos and other images to make fun calendar towels for yourself, and to give away as gifts to family and friends.
